Monument Valley

Monument Valley

The Four Corners region of the United States is the name given to the intersection of four of our states: Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico. Near Four Corners is where Monument Valley is located, more specifically, the Utah-Arizona border. It’s also on the Navajo Nation reservation. This reservation contains the largest square miles of all our Native American tribes.

You’ll probably recognize Monument Valley right away. It was made famous by the film director, John Ford, and has come to epitomize the American Western frontier, or the Old West or Wild West. You’ll also recognize it from a scene in Forrest Gump when Forrest ends his cross-country run. Here are more of the films featuring Monument Valley: John Ford’s Stagecoach (1939) and The Searchers (1956). Easy Rider (1969), Clint Eastwood’s film The Eiger Sanction (1975), and recently the UK television show Doctor Who in the two episodes “The Impossible Astronaut” and “Day of the Moon”.  (Source)
