Beaches at Sunset

Special Photos

Author PhotoBeaches at Sunset…

Hi, Everyone! Do you love to walk along the beach or hunt for shells or special rocks? Welcome to photos of Beaches at Sunset!

As a teenager, my family would camp one week a year at San Clemente Beach State Park in Southern California. Of course, I would get burned to a crisp, yet I never seemed to mind.

One of my favorite times of day, was late afternoon when the sun was going down. I remember how calm the waves would get and how I could paddle around in the surf without have to worry about getting pummeled by a wave. I loved it. I loved the ocean. Loved the beach.

Seeing the first photo in this line-up of seven, reminded me of those times so many years ago so I hunted around on Pixabay and found these beauties.

  1. I wouldn’t say I had an all-time favorite trip. But I would say that my favorite ongoing experience was when I was a kid and my mom would pack up the usual hot-dog paraphernalia and we’d head to the beach. At the time, we lived in northern California well up the coast above San Francisco and the beaches weren’t exactly sunny with warm weather even in summer. I remember we’d usually be bundled up in our warmest jackets and my dad would build a fire. We’d each roast our hot-dogs to our liking while the cold ocean breeze kept the smoke whipping around us. It sounds like it would have been uncomfortable and maybe it was was. But my childhood memory is that it was magical.

  2. Caris, that’s a great memory. For me any trip to the beach is great especially if I go solo and can shop and relax and move at my own time table.

  3. How to choose a favorite beach memory. So difficult. Have I mentioned that I currently live in west-central Michigan – about five miles from Lake Michigan? I was also born here. I was practically raised on the beach. Granted a different beach than San Clemente Beach State Park – though I have been fishing off the San Clemente pier and had some amazing times at various beaches along the Pacific to include the Puget Sound. But Lake Michigan beaches are pretty awesome too. Scrambling up the side of a dune just to see the lake or riding a dune buggy across the top with more sand dune on one side, that endless lake on the other. The crazy things we did as kids. The the camping trips . . . We camped all summer usually on some lake or other, sometimes Lake Heron on the other side of the state. I gotta say, I think Lake Michigan is prettier. Yes, I even went rock hunting at Lake Superior. Too cold to do much more than stick a toe in the water, but amazingly beautiful. Surprisingly I am not a fan of being in the water, but walking along the beach and/or watching the sun set, or rise, over the water . . . *sigh* Nothing more awesome. Thank you for the trip down memory lane on all those wonderful beaches.

    • Pansy Petal,
And thank you so much for sharing your memories! I felt like I was there and what fun you must have had. Like those hot-dog roasts I enjoyed as kid. We rarely went in the water that far up the coast (above San Francisco.) But just being there was enough.

  4. I guess the first time I ever saw a beach. Raised on the prairies, so I never was near the ocean, so when I was an adult and I went to Florida for the first time.

  5. My favorite memories of the beach was when my husband and I were going together and we used to go to Seaside Heights in New Jersey. Beautiful white sand and we always made a day of it. Of course our best friends went with us. Those were the days. 🙂

  6. I guess my favorite beach trip would have been the year after I got married and we took a trip to Myrtle Beach. It was kind of our honeymoon because we didn’t go anywhere when we first got married. It was the first time I had ever seen the ocean and I loved it. We had a cabin right on the beach and I would get up every morning and go look for shells, best trip ever.

  7. Once upon a time, along long time ago, I went to Loquillo Beach in Puerto Rico, and it was the most wonderful experience.. The water was so crystal-clear and the temperature was perfect. We’d spend the daylight hours there through to sunset. I didn’t want to go home. The muyky, crowded beaches off New York’s Long Island never satisfied me again.
